Two problems · One programme
The trade needs people. People need opportunity.
01 / The Skills Gap
The UK automotive sector is facing a critical shortage of qualified mechanics and vehicle repair technicians. An ageing workforce and declining numbers of young people entering the trade means employers are struggling to find the talent they need.
02 / The Opportunity Gap
Around 11% of Londoners aged 16+ are NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training). For those with experiences of the criminal justice system or supported living, the barriers are even higher.
Gearing2Grow brings these two challenges together with one solution — connecting people facing barriers with a sector that genuinely needs them.
What we do
Train. Qualify. Progress.
Three phases. Nine months. One pathway - out of NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) and into real work.
Explore the programmeTrain
Hands-on garage sessions covering vehicle maintenance, bodywork and accident repair on real vehicles.
Qualify
Participants work toward the IMI Level 2 Diploma in Auto Care - a nationally recognised qualification.
Progress
Preparation for employment, employer engagement, and supported transitions into work or apprenticeships.

We built Gearing2Grow because we know what it's like to be turned away from opportunity. This programme offers something different - a real chance, with real people, in a real environment.
